The growing significance of the Salers breed showed at this years great Yorkshire show were there was over 30 entries were Salers breeders wishing to share their story, by exhibiting the breed potential, at the Great Yorkshire Show.
In charge of proceedings was judge Mr Bryn Robinson, Shropshire. Bryn found his supreme champion in the form of his male champion Rednock Tarzan Poll from Gill & Malcolm Pye. Tarzan a April 2023 born bull sired by Senateur and out of home bred cow Rednock Dandelion poll also stood overall junior champion and best polled animal.
Stepping forward to receive the reserve overall champion sash was the March-2021 female champion Kaimburn Raquel, from Lewis Ralston, Raquel is sired by Cuil Maruin and out of Kaimburn Madonna also stood earlier in the day female champion. The reserve female champion of the day came from Gill & Malcolm Pye in the form of Rednock Oriana a April 2019 born cow by Rigel Officer and out of home bred cow Rednock Obessa.
The reserve male champion was from Catherine Atkinson, Traboyack Rooney, a February 2021 born Lowick Hall Spartan son out of Drumaglea Molly and was breed by Mr J Wright.
Standing Junior female champion and reserve overall junior champion was Mickleton Mill Tease a May 2023 born heifer by Bacardi Oh Boy and out of home bred Cow Mickleton Mill Risque.
The reserve junior female came from Bertrand Facon with Gentons Tequila a January 2023 born heifer by Icare and out of Diane.
Steven and Rachel Hallos, Beeston Hall Salers with Beeston Hall Ruby a September-2021 born daughter out of Beeston Hall Dena and sired by the reserve overall champion on the day, Beeston Hall Neyo.
The quality of the pair’s competition was exceptional and a sight to behold with three pairs of Salers on parade 1st was Rednock Estate followed by Catherine Atkinson Mickleton Mill Salers and Angus Gowthorpe Approach Salers.
The finale was the group of three which was won by Catherine Atkinson Mickleton Salers, followed by Angus Gowthorpe Approach Salers.
