REBECCA REIGNS AT ROYAL HIGHLAND

Mr Donald Gilder, Winchcombe, Gloucester, a fourth-generation farmer, who has spent a lifetime working with livestock and has been involved with the Salers breed since 1990, winning the RHS breed champion title himself in 1995 placed two-year-old, Lisnamaul Rebecca from Mr Johny Wright and family, Traboyack Salers, Ayrshire, as his female and overall champion.  This was the first time the Wright family had exhibited at the show, and they were triumphant with this Nemo sired daughter out of Lisnamaul Molly, bought privately from County Down breeders, P J Maginn & Sons, who had shown Rebecca as a yearling and won the reserve junior female and reserve junior champion titles at Balmoral Show in 2022.

The reserve overall champion sash and best animal bred by exhibitor was presented to the junior male champion and male champion Rednock Salvador from Rednock Estate, brought out by Alfie McGregor. Salvador was a Baron sired son, born in March-2022 and out of homebred cow Rednock Peru.

Rednock Estate were also triumphant in the female section winning junior female champion and reserve female champion, with March-2022 born Rednock Ukraine, sired by Rigel Officer, out of Rigel Odessa. She is destined for the Premier Sale at Castle Douglas Nov’ 2023 where she will be auctioned for charity where all the proceeds will go to the people of Ukraine.

Standing as reserve junior female champion was Cumbrian Nanou 257 Poll, a Manor Lane Napoleon daughter out of imported dam Nanou, from the Walling family, Farmstock Genetics.

Edgerston Trading (2006) Ltd brought out by Neil Ralston and family took the reserve junior male champion spot, then won the reserve junior championship before being awarded the reserve male championship rosette, with March-2022 born, Kaimburn Scoutingforgirls, sired by homebred Kaimburn Ole, out of Kaimburn Madonna.

The pairs competition was won by Bacardi Salers with a Gulliver son, Bacardi Shadrack and Seamore Nitro sired heifer, Bacardi Raquel. Edgerston Trading (2006) Ltd stood reserve with Kaimburn Scoutingforgirls and Kaimburn Rosie and the Ralston sons Greg and Lewis, who run Jedforest Livestock took 3^rd place with Jedforest Shaggy and Jedforest Roxy.  The best group of three was won by Traboyack Salers with Lisnamaul Rebecca, Lisnamaul Rascal and Traboyack Rooney.

On Saturday the Salers breed also claimed the fourth prize spot in the prestigious Interbreed Team Championship which was judged by Keith Redpath from Kelso. The four strong team consisted of Bacardi Matilda, Rednock Diana, Bacardi Raquel and Kaimburn Scoutingforgirls.
