A packed ringside looked on at the 23rd Annual Sale of Salers at Wallets Marts, Castle Douglas – commercial cattle sold up to £1450 for bulling heifers with in-calf heifers reaching £1700 this was followed by an excellent start on pedigree Salers with the first female to enter the ring Lisnamaul Floss making top price female at £5250. This May 2012 born animal from PJ Maginn & Sons, Northern Ireland is in calf to Seawell Fitzpatrick and is half sister to Lisnamaul Eimar who won 3 reserve championships in 2013. Sired by Ballynarry Samuel out of home bred Lisnamaul Barbie – she is heading to Banchory, care of John Black.
Top price bull went to the winner of the Salers Champion Junior Male of 2014 Cleuchhead Compo at £7560, from Rob & Kath Livesey this February 2013 born bull took Male Champion at the Royal Highland Show this year and has already proved himself by serving 11 heifers which are all scanned in calf. J & R Mitchell from Auchterarder should have some good success with this one.
The Willie Davidson Memorial Trophy was awarded to G S McClymont for the best pen of Commercial Cattle. Christine and grandchildren Ellie and Angus collected the Trophy for the family.
Buyers from all over the UK supported the sale, spreading the breed far and wide.
