The Livesey family have sold their homebred Salers bull Cleuchhead Brandy privately for £6000 to Bob and Lesley Howatt, Kinnaird Farm, Cupar, Fife. This April 2012-born bull is by the Gitan son Drumlegagh Brandon and out of Cleuchhead Gentle 12, a Valentin daughter, his EBVs are in the top 1% of the breed for maternal values. Brandy stood first in his class at the Royal Highland Show this year.
Rob, Kath, Iain and Rory Livesey have been breeding Salers cattle for more than 25 years after viewing some of the first imports in to the country. They run a herd of 80 pedigree cows alongside commercials that are between 50% and 95% Salers and 1200 Scotch Mules on their 760 acres farm at Melrose that also includes 120 acres of arable.
Commenting on his purchase Bob Howatt said “We have purchased a bull from the Livesey’s before and were pleased with how well he did for us. Brandy impressed us, he has plenty scope and is a well grown young bull. His dam is from an excellent line of cows which have all the maternal traits we require for breeding cross bred heifers, easy calving, milkiness, longevity and hardiness.”
