CASTLE DOUGLAS TRADE HIT 4800gns TWICE

The 21st Annual Sale at Wallets Marts, Castle Douglas was a great success with a top price of 4800gns achieved on two occasions. First at this money was David Watson, Darnford, Banchory, Aberdeen, who sold Darnford Dynamite, a 18 month old Chapelpark Ali son out of Precieux daughter Drumlegagh Bea. He was bought by J Howatson of Newton Stewart.
Then Rob and Kath Livesey, Firth Farm, Lilliesleaf, Melrose, sold their 18 month old Cleuchhead Archer. He is by Poldean Vince and out of Cleuchhead Gentle 6th who won first in her class at the Royal Highland Show this year. He sold to Baillie and Co in Orkney.
The top price female at 6,000gns came from Farmstock Genetics, Overwhitlaw Farm, Selkirk with Cumbrian Volute 496. The September 2010 born daughter of the Paris, Royal England and Great Yorkshire Show champion Vaillant. She is out of Fisher Volute 403, the dam of Royal and Royal Highland Show champions, in-calf to the homozygous polled bull Cumbrian Joker she sold to James Morton and son, Kaeside, Melrose.
The show champion, Whitebog Glenlivet from Alistair McKenzie, Fortrose, Highland made 4,200gns. Born March 2011, this one is by Seawell Diplomat and is out of the Uni daughter Whitebog Claire and was knocked down to J McIntosh, Stranraer.
Commercial heifers sold to a top of £1800 for calving heifers and then £1400 for bulling heifers.
Averages: Seven pedigree in-calf heifers £3210; six pedigree bulling heifers £2948.75; 18 bulls £3581.67 (Wallets Marts).
The society was delighted that Laurent Antignac, France, was able to attend as a guest judge for this our 21st annual show in Castle Douglas, he was rewarded for his task of judging by being the guest at our presentation dinner on the evening of the show, where we had sell out attendance.
